Megan Mitton
Megan Mitton has a clear vision for New Brunswick. One where New Brunswickers are at the heart of every decision. A New Brunswick where climate action is prioritized as a way to strengthen and sustain New Brunswick for generations to come.
With eight years experience as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), she knows how the system works and how decisions are made. She’s passionate about practical solutions for a better energy grid, access to healthcare, and social and economic justice. She believes we need more long-term thinking in politics, rather than short-term deals that only benefit the few. It’s with this experience that Megan is running to be the next leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick.
Megan’s vision includes New Brunswick becoming a leader in renewable energy, such as solar and wind, and in energy-efficient buildings, all while creating more jobs than would be possible in oil and gas production. She believes we need to invest in strong local food systems that produce food that’s accessible for all New Brunswickers, not just the wealthiest among us. She envisions a strong democracy where decisions that impact our communities are made locally, and where citizens are genuinely represented.
If we work together, stand up for what we truly believe in, and vote for what we want, Megan believes this is all within our grasp.
She’s dedicated the last decade of her life to public service, and is committed to continuing to do everything in her power to transform politics. She is a leader who cares about the very real struggles that New Brunswickers face, and has consistently prioritized their needs over the demands of the wealthy and powerful.
Now in her third term as MLA, Megan has proven that she is up to the challenge of standing up for New Brunswickers. Since becoming the first woman elected as a Green MLA in New Brunswick’s history in 2018, she has worked tirelessly for the people of her riding and beyond, and served as the Deputy Leader of the New Brunswick Green Party from 2023-2026.
After graduating from Tantramar Regional High School, Megan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University. Before entering politics, Megan worked and volunteered for over a decade in the non-profit sector. She worked with homeless and low-income women and children, and did youth environmental education, and public outreach on renewable energy and addressing climate change. In 2016, Megan was elected as a Town Councillor in the former municipality of Sackville.
Megan and her husband currently reside in their hometown of Sackville with their two children.
